What is a VET Student Loan?

We are an approved VET Student Loans (VSL) provider, offering eligible students access to Australian Government loans to support their training.

Important information

Taking out a VET Student Loan is a significant financial commitment, so it’s important to understand how it works.

  • The loan covers tuition fees only
  • It does not cover additional costs such as medicals, uniforms, licensing or living expenses
  • The student will need to repay it once their income reaches the repayment threshold
  • A 20% loan fee may apply, which is added to the loan amount (not paid upfront) – loan arrangements are set by the Australian Government
  • It is repaid through the Australian tax system
  • The loan is indexed each year, meaning your balance may increase over time
  • The loan will remain a personal debt until it is repaid to the commonwealth
  • This will reduce a student take-home (after tax) wage or salary and may reduce the students borrowing capacity.

Eligibility and Application

Am I eligible?

Eligibility is set by the Australian Government. In general, you will need to:

  • Meet citizenship and residency requirements
  • Have available HELP loan balance
  • Be enrolled in an approved course
  • Meet academic suitability requirements

After enrolment and a short cooling-off period, you’ll receive a secure link to complete an electronic Commonwealth Assistance Form (eCAF).

Submitting your eCAF is a legal declaration that you understand and accept a VET Student Loan debt.

Yes. A student may wish to seek independent financial advice before applying for a loan.

Census dates (important)

Each part of your course has a census date, which is the point your loan is applied.

  • Withdraw before the census date → no loan debt
  • Withdraw after the census date → loan debt applies

You’ll receive your census dates before you begin.

Fees and loan caps

VET Student Loans are subject to Australian Government loan caps, which set the maximum amount that can be borrowed for each course.
